I was reluctant to buy this product because I got pregnant very quickly with my first child. Now we have been trying to conceive again for over one year. I kept thinking the CBEFM was a big investment and we would probably get pregnant the next time around. I finally bought this and I am so glad I did. I am sorry I wasted so much time. I did use ovulation tests previously but I was so convinced that I ovulated "around day 14"of my cycle that if I didn't get a positive around that time, I would stop checking, assuming I missed it and the test was just not sensitive enough. The tests can be hard to interpret, except the for the digital ones that, coincidentally (or not!) Clear Blue makes and they cost a lot too, I believe about $35 for a kit of 7. Those have a smiley face for fertile time and an empty circle for non-fertile time. Anyway, I bought this digital monitor and there is no uncertainty. The monitor tells you when to do the test, it tells you which days are "high" fertility (estrogen increased) and which are "peak" days (LH surge). It always correlates well with my other "signs of ovulation" and I am seeing that my day of ovulation varies greatly from day 14 to day 22! Of course it is no guarantee but if you are not trying on the right days, then you are not really trying at all. At least this gets you in the game.

My husband and I had been trying to concieve for 6 months before buying this monitor. I had been tracking my cycle and cervical mucus religiously for a year, and had a pretty good idea of when I was ovulating. I bought this monitor to help me confirm when I was ovulating. Well, the first month we used the monitor, I had 13 high fertility days and no peak fertility days. I started freaking out thinking that I was not ovulating at all. We went to see my doctor. I had hormone testing done and it turned out that I was ovulating just fine, and my hormones were exactly where they were supposed to be. My doctor explained that there was nothing wrong with me, the monitor was just failing to detect my LH surge (which was in deed happening). The second month, same thing. I used the monitor, I had 12 days of high fertility and no peak fertility days. I was more than frustrated with this expensive little gadget. As chance would have it, we ended up getting pregnant the second month of using this monitor, with absolutely no help from this monitor. I am glad that this monitor has worked for so many other women, but it did not work at all for us and it turned out to be a huge waste of money. Not only for the monitor, but also for the test sticks - it says you need 10 test sticks each month - that is a lie - the monitor told me to use 20 sticks each month. Not only were the sticks ridiculously expensive, it was difficult to find stores that carried them in stock. My advice; save your money, this monitor does not work for everyone.

So, why two stars if this product does exactly what it says it will do? Very simple - there are MUCH cheaper, and just as effective methods of tracking your monthly cycle. It is extremely important to track your cycle, as we don't all ovulate on day 14, and intercourse is recommended every other day during your fertile time (generally starting 5 days before you ovulate until the day you ovulate).

What this product does do (Pros):
Identifies the days leading up to and of ovulation

What this product doesn't do (Cons):
Allow you to review your historical cycles
Test for pregnancy (I know that's obvious - but at this price range I would expect a product to be able to do BOTH)
Get you pregnant (again, obvious, but the reviewers that say they got pregnant a few months after using this product did not know their cycles to begin with!)
Allow you to test outside the 6 hour window

So, how to get to know your cycle. I highly recommend the fertility strips that amazon also sells that are about 25 cents each. Yes, 25 cents each. You do have to urinate in a cup and then dip the test stick in a cup, but this is a small inconvenience. You should begin testing once a day by day 10 of your cycle (maybe earlier if you have a short cycle), and as soon as you see a faint second line on the product begin your every other day activity until you see the surge, and then perhaps bump it up to every day. I ended up using the Clearblue easy as well as these strips and got the EXACT SAME RESULTS with both products. In fact, I kept using the strips even with clearblue because I wanted to know exactly when my surge occurred to figure out my 24 to 36 hour window.

Print off a free online calendar and keep track of the date, when your cycle started, when you started to see a faint line and then a surge, etc. Then you can hold onto these to reference back to them. You can optionally also track your basal body temperature, but I don't find this to be as convenient.

This product really is gimmicky in my opinion, it does nothing other than test your LH, which can be done with the inexpensive test strips. I would recommend saving your money! If you don't have a regular cycle, I highly recommend trying the root vegetable Maca. After taking Maca for just a week I ovulated on day 14 when I normally ovulate on day 17-19!
