I received this little guy as a gift and have been VERY pleased. The casing and inner workings ARE mainly plastic (yeah, I disassembled it, lol) but it has a very clear sound and a very small footprint. It doesn't take up much room at all. I am an occasional home pianist and don't need a hardcore professionals' metronome, but I still wanted something a little old school, with a pendulum. I haven't yet needed to travel with my metronome (though you never know when you'll be driving down the road and suddenly need to figure out 108 bpm) but I feel assured it would travel well.

My only complaint is that mine didn't come with a wind-up key, but my needle nose pliers work perfectly! Glad to have it; if mine broke, I'd buy another of the same.

I've had one of these little guys for about 20 years now, and it still works just as great as always. I've moved with it, kept it in a case with drumsticks and mallets (where it certainly got knocked around a lot), and generally not been very careful with it (especially when I was younger) but despite it all it still works perfectly, keeps great time and looks just about the same. I'd highly recommend this to anyone.

Also, one nice thing for classical musicians is that it has a reference on the front that tells you the BPM for different tempo notations like "allegro" etc. Great for those of us who don't know Italian. : )
